Glossary
Net Carbs
Definition: A commonly used estimate of digestible carbohydrate, calculated by subtracting fibre (and sometimes sugar alcohols) from total carbohydrate.
Why it matters
Many low-carb and keto food labels advertise “net carbs” because fibre has minimal impact on blood sugar. The term is not FDA-regulated in the same way “total carbohydrate” is, so calculations can vary between brands.
Example
A food with 20g total carbohydrate and 8g fibre might be labeled as having 12g net carbs.
